The Red Maltese Cross Skull Knight patch is one of the more interesting biker patches in our inventory due to its historical nature. We suspect fans of The Cheap Place appreciate it mainly because it looks so good. But how many know the history behind the Maltese Cross?
The Maltese Cross was a symbol officially adopted by the Knights Hospitallers of St. John in the early 12th century. This group of warriors ruled and protected the Maltese islands from the mid-16th century through the end of the 18th century. But the Knights Hospitallers didn't come up with the symbol on their own. It was borrowed from Italian coins minted in Amalfi.
At any rate, the Maltese Cross is still associated with the country of Malta today. It is incorporated in the Maltese Euro coin design and the logo of the country's national airline. In this patch's design, it is combined with a skull, crossed swords, and a knight's helmet.
The design is very creative, at least in our opinion. It combines skull and crossbones imagery with the warrior mentality of the Knights Hospitallers. And even if you don't care about the history of Malta or knights in general, it is hard to argue that this patch just looks cool.
The bright red Maltese Cross reaches out and grabs your attention. And once your attention is grabbed, you're staring into the face of a smiling skull who clearly has nothing positive on his mind. It has biker patch written all over it. Imagine seeing the patch sewn to your black leather jacket or vest.
Like all our biker patches, you are getting a fantastic piece here. If you have an empty spot on your vest or jacket, fill it with this patch. It will get a lot of attention.
